The quintessential college student look—a pair of sweatpants, a soft sweatshirt, and last but not least, comfy shoes. Retail brands Hollister and Crocs have paired up to appeal to college students across the country through their new collaboration, Dream Drop.

About the Drop

The limited-edition line, titled Dream Drop, consists of Y2K-inspired comfort clothing for the upcoming fall season. The collaboration, released on September 9th, 2025, is comprised of 6 pieces, including 2 pairs of the “Classic Unfurgettable Clog.” Alongside these cozy, faux-shearling-lined shoes are two matching sets of sweats. The women’s matching set, a sherpa-lined zip-up hoodie, and bootcut sweatpants—both sold in a blush pink color—showcase a Y2K-inspired silhouette, a popular trend amongst Gen-Z shoppers. Specifically, a survey by GWI reported that “54% of Gen Z like the style of vintage clothes” (Harlow, 2025, p. 14), leading to a resurgence in trends that first sparked in the 90s and 2000s. The drop also features a men’s sweats set comprised of a hoodie with a camo sherpa-lined interior and an olive green exterior. The set also includes a pair of olive green, baggy sweatpants.

The Launch’s Success

The campaign for the launch teamed up with music artist “D4vd,” a popular musician with hits like “Here With Me” and “Romantic Homicide,” to promote the drop to a wider audience. Additionally, Gen-Z actor and singer Malachi Barton also promoted the line in a recent TikTok video, stating he will be “…living in this […] dream drop for the rest of [his] life.” The choice of endorsements for the drop implies that Hollister is focusing on appealing to a largely Gen-Z audience, possibly contributing to the collab’s success. USA Today writer Kacey Caminiti wrote in a recent article that she is “… unexpectedly obsessed with [the] new Hollister drop” (Caminiti, 2025, pg. 1). All pieces sold out in the days leading up to the release, placing customers on a list to be notified of new stock.

Gen-Z’s Love for Comfort

On Crocs’ website, the bootcut sweatpants are stated to be “…made from a super soft fleece fabric for ultimate comfort.” Comfortable clothing has seen a surge in popularity in recent years, with an article from Forbes stating, “over eight in ten (81%) make comfort their top priority, ahead of cost or style“, “” (Hardcastle, 2022, pg. 2). The love for comfort is likely a large factor in the launch’s success. Specifically, it likely appeals to college students. At Baylor University, freshman Antonella Wesson stated that dressing in comfortable clothes “…fills [her] with joy,” and that her “…focus skyrockets.” Early classes, practicality, and coziness are all reasons college students often cite for wearing comfortable clothes to classes, making students an ideal audience for the campaign.
